With the massive changes in the squad taking place during the last summer transfer window, one of the players who would suffer the most is the Spanish defender, Marcos Alonso.
The Spaniard can play both as a left-back and as a center-back, but the arrival of Inigo Martinez and Joao Cancelo will result in him getting fewer minutes than he did last season.
However, matches have started to pile up for the Catalans and rotations are necessary in the starting XI. Xavi can make some changes in the upcoming match against Celta in order to not fatigue the key players too much.
Alonso likely to play in the upcoming match
According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona will have a significantly changed team for the match against Celta Vigo. Marcos Alonso, who has only played sporadically this season, is in the pole position to get into the starting XI in this match.
Barcelona played two matches in three days, as they faced Real Sociedad on Saturday before again facing Royal Antwerp in the Champions League.
Alejandro Balde played almost all these minutes in these two games, and thus can be rested by Xavi for the upcoming game. This rotation is even more likely as Barcelona will play three games again in the next week.
Alonso has made only two appearances this season, as he played ninety minutes against Villarreal and another fifteen against Real Betis.
Martinez yet to make his starting debut
Another defender who is yet to make a starting debut for Barcelona is Inigo Martinez. The club believes it is still too early for him to start a match, and he will only come in the second half in the upcoming match. Martinez has played only sixteen minutes up to now, one against Osasuna and fifteen against Betis.
Furthermore, Ronald Araujo is nearing full recovery and is expected to receive the medical green light ahead of the match against Celta Vigo. However, he is not expected to start the game as he has just recovered from his injury but could get some minutes in the 2nd half of the match.
