The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid has always been a historic one in football. The Catalan giants and the pride of Madrid are both two of the most successful clubs in European football. However, some players do walk a fine line between the two clubs.

Given how heated the rivalry is, players are often seen as being forbidden from playing for both clubs. Despite that, several players over the years have ended up playing for both the Clasico giants. Moreover, it seems a new player may also be on the horizon of pledging his allegiance to the enemy.

As highlighted by SPORT, former Barcelona subsidiary player Alex Grimaldo recently spoke about Real Madrid in an interview. Mentioning Los Blancos as not just a great club, but he further went on to claim that they are a club that every player hopes to join.

“Real Madrid is one of the best teams in the world, if not the best, and it is a team that every player wants to go to, but at the moment I am at Bayer Leverkusen.”

This mention of the eternal rivals of Barcelona is possibly rooted in the fact that the Madrid-based outfit is on the lookout for a left-back. Other names such as Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies have also been brought up. However, Grimaldo may be hoping that he gets his chance to shine.

Speaking about this possibility of rejoining Barcelona, Grimaldo stated that he understood why La Blaugrana did not end up fully pursuing him.

“I understand it perfectly, in the end, they also have the position covered, they have very good players, and the teams are looking for positions that are less covered.”

Currently under the mentorship of Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, the fullback and his side are excelling in the Bundesliga. However, despite even being linked to a possible return to Barcelona, Grimaldo’s allegiance seems to vary for now depending on what destination suits him best.
