With FC Barcelona unable to find any real consistency in their form and the team having missed out on the Spanish Super Cup, there are a lot of questions arising on Xavi Hernandez’s future at the club.
Laporta and other top club officials were quick to reiterate their faith in the current head coach, and the last victory over Unionistas de Salamanca has somewhat stabilized the ship for Xavi, but it remains to be seen how Barcelona’s season ends.
In such a case, it is natural to ponder upon the possible successors of Xavi on the Barcelona bench, and one name who has been mentioned to be likely to take up such a role in the future is the former Barcelona Atletic coach, Garcia Pimienta.
Pimienta is having a very good season with Las Palmas, and Barcelona are admirers of his good work with the Canary Islands club. However, as Mundo Deportivo has noted, the former Barcelona Atletic coach is not too keen on a return to the Catalan club and is focusing on his current club, as he made clear in a recent interview:
“It [returning to Barcelona] doesn’t even cross my mind at this moment. We have to secure permanence, which is going to be very difficult, and once achieved, we’ll see what happens in the future.”
He also described the work of his team as: “something incredible, competing in La Liga and having an immaculate season.”
There is no doubt that Pimienta is once again showing his competencies at the highest level in Spain, having already done a lot of good work with the Barcelona B team. However, he did not part with the Catalan club in the most ceremonious of ways, and his return to the club looks highly unlikely in the near or long-term future.
