FC Barcelona have managed to remain a truly competitive side over the last few seasons despite their significant economic limitations. Ensuring the arrival of elite players regardless of the measures they have had to take at times, the Barcelona management worked tirelessly to pull off a significant number of important deals.
Despite the recognition going to the entirety of the Barcelona board, the man who perhaps was the most integral piece of the puzzle to get several deals over the line in a favorable fashion for Barcelona was Mateu Alemany.
The most recent Director of Football for FC Barcelona, Alemany was crucial in ensuring that several contracts and agreements were established in a way that favored Barca’s economic problems. Players like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and several other top stars were brought in during Alemany’s reign.
However, following the end of the recent summer transfer window, FC Barcelona and their former Director have decided to part ways. Former player Deco has instead taken his place in Alemany’s previous role and Barcelona have already made it official as well.
According to the latest update provided by Enrique Ortego however, it appears that fellow La Liga club Atletico Madrid may be heavily invested in bringing Mateu Alemany over to Madrid and make him the club’s new Director of Football for the near future.
Moreover, the report states that Alemany is enticed by this opportunity and it is the one on his table that he currently takes the most liking towards.
Previous reports before this summer window even claimed that he was close to joining Premier League outfit Aston Villa, but talks broke down and he decided to return to Barcelona.
Other reports have decided to have their own say as to why Barcelona and Alemany have decided to part ways. Many suggest that it was due to a lack of faith in the Director as compared to someone like Deco, who already possesses connections from his Barcelona days, as well as the fact that Alemany himself did not exactly agree with a lot of decisions that Barca were working towards due to their unsustainable nature in his mind.
