FC Barcelona and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang shared a special connection in the latter half of last season. The player enjoyed phenomenal form under the tutelage of Xavi Hernández and in terms of goals per game percentage, his record surpassed even that of Robert Lewandowski currently.
Since his departure, both he and Barcelona benefitted from an economical point of view. The player returned to England to play for Chelsea on a higher salary than what Barcelona had been offering him, while Barcelona themselves received a transfer fee worth €10 million, despite originally acquiring him as a free agent.
However, on a sporting level, the player has not had the best of times at Stamford Bridge. Not in proper synchronization with the London Blues, the player has since also been left out of their UEFA Champions League squad. In time, the Gabonese striker has now come to terms with his current situation and hopes to find an exit.
His first priority remains a return to FC Barcelona, with a failed attempt already made in January that was not possible due to Aubameyang not being eligible to be registered for a third time in the same season. Moreover, he is also willing to lower his salary to whatever amount it is that is compliable with FC Barcelona so that they are able to facilitate his arrival as per the recent reports from SPORT.
Despite the obvious dedication and commitment to joining La Blaugrana, his signing proves to be detrimental to the Catalan’s other long-term plans. While he remains a great footballer to have in the squad, Barcelona are more intent on acquiring the services of Vitor Roque, the young Brazilian prodigy.
While Aubameyang’s signing would be much more viable economically, Vitor Roque’s would be a strong one strategically looking ahead to the future of the club. Time will tell which angle FC Barcelona ends up preferring at the end.
