Gavi’s injury, which will keep him out for the rest of the season, changes a lot of things for FC Barcelona. The young midfielder had been one of the most played players in Xavi’s team this season, and his lack of availability for the rest of the season will complicate things a lot for the Barcelona head coach.

Keeping in view the physical problems that Barcelona are already reeling from in the midfield area, the Catalans will have to find a worthy replacement for the injured La Masia prodigy.

According to SPORT, the club is already taking a look at the market options available to replace Gavi, and one of the players who meets the requirements of the Blaugranes is the former Barcelona player Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago’s contract at Liverpool is running out at the end of this season, and his incorporation at Barcelona will not be an impossibility for the Catalan club, even in its stringent economic situation.

Liverpool will also not object vigorously to Thiago’s departure, as he has served the Merseyside club loyally in the three and a half seasons he has spent there.

The former La Masia graduate is a very compelling option for Barcelona at this point in time. He plays in the interior of the midfield and has the Barca DNA in his game that few others possess.

He has played with Xavi Hernandez in his career as a player, and would not need an adaptation process because of his upbringing at Barcelona. He would thus make an instant impact on the team.

He will also be fully fit by the time the winter window opens, and will have recovered from the hip discomfort that has kept him from participating in some recent Liverpool matches.

The report mentions that Guido Rodriguez and Jorginho are also being considered by Barcelona, but these two players are more likely to be approached by the club in the summer window, as they play more as a pivot, and not as an interior midfielder, and thus would not be able to replace Gavi in the squad.
