FC Barcelona have reportedly followed a lot of different players and profiles over the course of the last few transfer windows. Despite their evident financial restrictions, the Catalan club continues to gather any information at an. After all, any market opportunity that pops up is one for Barcelona to at least consider.
One of their constant objectives over the last few windows, however, has been the signing of a new defensive midfielder. While they were linked to players like Mikel Merino this summer, they ultimately focused on other players that ended up overshadowing that need.
However, if there is one name that has been linked to a move to Barcelona for many years now, it is that of German star Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich star was wanted by the Catalan club previously but the financial aspect never seemed to align just right for Barça to go through with that move.
Yet, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Senior has recently talked about what he believes to be Kimmich’s future motivation amidst the interest from Barça and his reply was clear as day:
“Joshua Kimmich is very eager to join Barça.”
As to why he is making such a statement, his argument remains that the arrival of Hansi Flick will not just influence Joshua Kimmich but many world-class players in general to levitate towards Barcelona because of his standing as a recognized coach and due to the pedigree of the club itself, many top players lean towards La Blaugrana as their next destination he says:
“When you ask top German and French players where they want to play, most of them say Barça… While Real Madrid is also mentioned, the general preference is to play for Barça due to its history, greatness, and the prestige of the club, without focusing on financial issues.”
Moreover, while stating that Flick is a ‘silent leader’, Bojan Krkic Senior believes that he has instilled a sense of mental fortitude and enthusiasm back into the team. For now, however, the case of Kimmich will have to wait until the summer of 2025 it seems, given that Barcelona consider it a more viable opportunity to make advances for the player.
Moreover, with his contract ending in that same summer, Barcelona would ideally want to secure his arrival as a free signing. Both Kimmich and Jonathan Tah remain on Barça’s agenda as a result, and despite failing to acquire either of them despite recent rumors, the club continues to keep them on their wish list.
