Several FC Barcelona players are at a very advanced age, and might not be playing at the highest stage in the coming few years. The striker, Robert Lewandowski, is one such player, who at 35 years of age, is one such player whose time as an elite footballer may soon be coming to an end.

As a result, there is already speculation on how Lewandowski’s future career will pan out and one of former Barcelona players and sporting directors, Eric Abidal, has reflected on how the Pole can perform in a role as a Sporting Director himself in the future.

As SPORT has reported, the Frenchman was speaking at the Sport Business Poland Congress, and spoke about Lewandowski’s potential to become a successful official:

“He had a better career than mine, so it should be easier. He has the right qualities to work as a sports director, and I believe he would do well, not only in Poland but throughout Europe.

Robert is one of the best players in the world and has tremendous experience. He understands the game and isn’t afraid of tough challenges. National organizations or clubs always want to have people like him, and Lewandowski could pass on the knowledge he’s gained over the years.”

Abidal went on to praise some specific attributes of Lewandowski, which make him particularly suitable for such a role in the future:

“He knows what it means to train hard and compete at the highest level. He is an example of a professional athlete.”

However, Abidal remained cautious, and made it clear that it was only his opinion, and Lewandowski will have to make a decision regarding his future by himself:

“I cannot decide for him or advise him. It’s not always easy to choose your next profession. Nevertheless, he has potential and quality.”

Abidal’s comments do make sense, as Lewandowski has a lot of experience in football, and has worked for some of the biggest clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and FC Barcelona. His stature as a player will be another advantage that can help him succeed in such a position in the future.
