There are few strikers in the history of FC Barcelona who have been loved as much by the Cules as the Uruguayan Luis Suarez. The striker joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014, as the club decided to bet on him despite him fighting the controversy surrounding his biting incident.

Barcelona’s decision to bet on the Uruguayan proved to be a good one in hindsight, as he become a part of one of the most iconic forward lines in the recent history of the club, i.e. Messi, Suarez, and Neymar.

In the last few years, the striker has seen a rapid deterioration of his knee, which makes it difficult to keep contributing his best on the pitch. Suarez had to undergo a knee surgery when he was still at Barcelona, and his knee was never the same after that.

The striker has himself confessed in an interview given in Uruguay, which has been reported by SPORT, that he needs a high dosage of medication to be able to play:

“The nights before matches, I take three pills, and before the game, I inject myself with Voltaren. If I don’t do that, I can’t play.”

Suarez explained the exact problem that his knee is going through right now:

“On the inner side, I have cartilage wear, and it rubs against the bone. It doesn’t produce liquid because I couldn’t even move it, but it gets stuck, and I can’t even bend it.”

Suarez went on to explain how his knee has deteriorated over the last few years, ever since his time at Barcelona:

“On the outer part of the knee, I have tension from a surgery I had in 2020 when I was in Barcelona. During the final stage of recovery, the pandemic hit, and I had to do exercises on my own, which didn’t fully stretch the knee.”

Thus, Suarez is suffering from a case of osteoarthritis, a medical condition in which the knee degenerates and causes pain whenever he plays football.

Suarez also confessed that it’s hard for him to play even against his son, but with the help of medicines, the Uruguayan is looking for a last adventure alongside his former Barcelona teammate and close friend, Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
