Even in moments of clear financial difficulties, it would appear that FC Barcelona always has avenues to look at. Over the course of the last few seasons, La Blaugrana have continued to acquire some of the most outstanding talent of Europe. However, given how crucial this upcoming window could be, Barcelona do not want to waste opportunities.

One of the ways Barcelona has been able to incorporate elite players without needing to worry too much about financial fair play has been through the incorporation of loan players. Even now, an elite European talent continues to be linked to the Catalan club due to a special clause in line with this specific format.

According to Mundo Deportivo, former La Masia prodigy and current PSG starlet Xavi Simons could end up making a sensational return to Barcelona. The 21-year-old Dutch wonderkid reportedly has a special clause in his agreement with PSG that allows him to choose the destination of his next loan spell and that decision could very well be Barcelona itself.

A specialist in terms of attacking football with a far more direct approach than the typical Barcelona midfielder, Simons offers a dynamism that very few players within the current Barça team can. Moreover, he also has an eye for goal, scoring 9 goals this season while on loan at RB Leipzig.

His performances over in the Bundesliga and also in the UEFA Champions League have not gone unnoticed. Barcelona have already let their interest be known, and for this reason, Xavi Simons and his agent are reportedly scheduling a meeting with PSG president Nasser Al Khelaïfi, to discuss this matter further to get the clearance for a possible loan back to Barcelona.

Formerly a graduate and player of La Masia, one that was highly rated and almost seemed destined to lead Barcelona one day, Simons would have no issues adapting to the club if he were to return.

With Xavi Hernandez as one of his great idols, and with Barcelona being hopeful of bringing him back, this could be a very fruitful operation for all parties involved. For now, a loan seems to be the only feasible way of bringing the former Barcelona academy star back.

In the event of a possible transfer fee, MD reports that PSG would not let Simons leave for anything below €100 million. Given how impossible this sum would be for Barcelona right now, it seems very likely that they will stick to the option of a loan spell.
