The summer transfer window is yet to begin officially, but FC Barcelona have already made some moves in the market. For instance, they have already finalized the signing of veteran center-back Inigo Martinez for free, who is expected to strengthen the defense for the next season.
While Martinez is going to be a short-term addition to the squad keeping in view his already advanced age. However, Barcelona have also got a center-back whom they expect to be a part of the club’s squad for years to come in the form of Mikail Faye.
FC Barcelona signed the 18-year-old from the Croatian side NK Kustosija, and he has the potential to develop into a world-beating center-back in the future.
Ugo Klingor, the assistant coach at NK Kustosija, spoke to Què T’hi Jugues, where he provided an insight into Faye’s strengths. He claimed that “Faye is an exceptional player”, who is “very dominant, explosive, and powerful”. He also praised the technical knowledge of the player, and claimed that his “tactical knowledge is excellent”.
Continuing his praise of the player, Klingor went on to describe Faye as a player who has a very good knowledge of the game, and reads the game very well, allowing him to anticipate opponent moves and make timely interceptions. His assistant coach also praised the player’s ability to thrive in one-on-one situations.
Klingor had also worked with another promising center-back at Dinamo Zagreb academy before, who has now gone on to make his name as one of the top center-backs in football. This player is Josko Gvardiol, and comparing him with Faye, Klingor claimed that Faye’s explosiveness, power, technicality, and shooting are all better than Gvardiol’s when he was at Faye’s age.
This is some high praise for the new FC Barcelona recruit, and Cules will be hoping that the player can live up to this hype and go on to become a top-class defender at the club.
The player has still a lot to learn before he can become a starter for FC Barcelona, but will be fortunate enough to learn from some of the best defenders in the game like Kounde, Christensen, and Araujo.
