One of the players who departed FC Barcelona this summer was the winger Ez Abde. The Moroccan international has seen his stock rise significantly during the last two seasons and now has another challenge ahead of him to try and maintain his form with Real Betis.
Abde really shone with the Osasuna team last season, where he spent a season on loan. The Moroccan was an important part of Jagoba Arrasate’s squad, which went on to the Copa del Rey final last season.
Leaving Barcelona
Opportunities were hard to come by at Barcelona because of the wealth of attacking talent available to Xavi, which resulted in a decreased game time for the winger. As a result, he decided to leave Barcelona and try his luck at Real Betis.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Abde appeared in a press conference this Thursday, as he was presented as a Betis player. At this event, the player talked about his decision to leave Barcelona:
“From Barcelona, they told me they wanted me to stay. In the first three matchdays, I saw that I wasn’t getting playing time. I was clear that I wanted to start playing, so I decided to leave.”
Further commenting on his decision to join Betis, the player said: “From day one, I told (Ramón Planes) that I only wanted to go to Betis.”
Abde was also asked about the game coming up next week when he will be facing his former side, Barcelona. Abde can make his debut in this match, but still explained the match as “just another game”.
The Moroccan could have had a Barcelona player, Lamine Yamal, still as his teammate had the latter decided to play for Morocco. However, the youngster decided to represent Spain internationally, and on this matter, Abde refrained from giving any comment: “I can’t interfere in that decision; it’s up to the kid, and I wish him all the best.”
Abde can play his first match in a Real Betis shirt this weekend, but it remains to be seen how well he would do in this new team. Everything indicates that he can be an effective player for Betis, and hopefully, he can further improve as a player in this new environment.
