Formerly injured Barcelona star to return to the starting XI against Alaves

FC Barcelona have been struggling in recent times against opponents that they arguably should not be struggling against. The Catalan giants have reached their lowest point of the season thus far and will need to make corrections fast. As such, several players will need to step up.

Regarding the sidelined players, only Frenkie De Jong remains injured among the players that are seen as difference makers. However, another crucial piece of Xavi’s Barcelona who just recently returned from injury is Pedri.

The Canary Islander is seen as the heart of this FC Barcelona side. His understanding of the game coupled with his technical brilliance puts him well above others on the field.

However, after much consideration and quite a cautious approach with him in terms of recovery, there may be even more good news coming in.

According to the latest update by RAC1, Pedri is forecasted to start against Deportivo Alaves. Barcelona welcome their opponents to the Montjuic Stadium on Sunday, as they continue their La Liga campaign. Moreover, in the scenario that he does end up starting, this would be Pedri’s first start since returning from injury.

A great step forward for the player, it is also seen as a great one for the club itself. Barcelona maintain full confidence in the quality of their players, and Pedri is arguably a standout. His ability and contribution to the team are seen as something that could change the landscape of the side.

Having featured briefly against both Real Sociedad and Shakhtar Donetsk, Pedri will now get to fully showcase his talents. Moreover, the same update also provides information about a potential Spanish call-up for the 20-year-old.

As per the latest news, Pedri is not expected to be called up by Luis de la Fuente. This would primarily be done to allow the player to recover fully and get himself reintegrated within the Barcelona starting XI on a consistent basis first.

FC Barcelona will be ecstatic upon hearing this as they would want Pedri to have as much rest as possible. The youngster will reportedly use that time to regain his physical fitness and momentum.

However, given how important this Alaves clash could be for Barcelona, not even Pedri will be excused for playing below expectations.
