Youngsters have often left behind a great impact in the history of FC Barcelona, and for good reason. Produced in La Masia and having their abilities honed to near perfection, stars produced within the academy of Barcelona are equipped with the best knowledge of football any institution of the sport has to offer.

While many leave to other pastures in order to find game time, Barcelona make sure to retain the very best for themselves. The likes of Ansu Fati, Alejandro Balde, Fermin Lopez, and Lamine Yamal were only a few of the latest entrants.

One of the most special and recognizable, however, is now Pablo Gavi. 19 years of age and already considered a star talent by the standards of the very best. Having previously won the Golden Boy award, many would assume that he is already on the right trajectory.

However, for Gavi himself, enough is never enough. Speaking with La Vanguardia, as highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, the 19-year-old confirmed that he had spoken with his agent, Ivan de la Pena, regarding setting goals for the ongoing season.

Reaching 10 goals

First and foremost come his goals. The youngster believes that he ought to be scoring more than he is currently and has already set a number of goals as his target for the 2023/24 campaign:

“We have talked about reaching ten (goals). I already have two.”

Attempting long shots

He also openly spoke about not attempting enough efforts from range or outside the box:

“I have to see the goal clearly, and while it is still difficult, I have to be more daring.”

Improving ‘La Pausa’

Another key element that the player highlights as something he has improved on since last year and will continue to work on is understanding ‘La Pausa’:

“Compared to last year I have improved on knowing when to pause play, as well as challenging for balls that are there for duels without being reckless.”

Remaining a fighter

Since the injuries to both Pedri and Frenkie De Jong are here to stay for at least a little while longer, Gavi has taken full advantage of his opportunities. Tenacious, relentless, aggressive, and at times demanding, the youngster believes his attitude to be his defining trait:

“I consider myself a fighter, until the end, and I will never lose that.”

With the clash against Porto now just a few hours away, Gavi will be looking to make yet another impression against a formidable opponent. The European stage awaits, and the 19-year-old La Masia gem could not be any more ready for it.
