In the last few weeks, two youngsters, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, have taken over the spotlight at FC Barcelona for their highly impressive performances at a very young age.
These two players clearly show that there are highly capable players playing in the quarry, and if there was any doubt left, there is another player, Mikayil Faye, who is performing at a very high level with Barcelona Atletic and has attracted a lot of attention without even making his first-team debut with Barcelona.
The Senegalese international is making the headlines with his powerful physical style of defending, and his performances with Rafa Marquez’s team also helped him gain a call-up from the senior Senegal team, albeit only due to a last-minute absence.
However, the defender took full advantage of the opportunity when he was allowed to make his international debut at only 19 years of age, as he marked this event with a spectacular 40-meter goal. Now, he is already back in Barcelona, and got named in the first-team squad for the match against Las Palmas.
But, as SPORT has noted, it was with Barcelona Atletic that he made headlines once again as he scored the winning goal for his side in the last few minutes of a match against Osasuna B that the Catalans were losing 2-0 at the 20-minute mark.
The youngster scored directly from a free-kick at the 88th minute, and got his team the vital three points that will allow them to remain on the second position in the Primera Federacion, one point behind the leaders Deportivo la Coruna.
As he continues to wait to make his first-team debut with Barcelona, the Catalans have also received several offers for him, mainly from England and France, while other big European clubs continue to monitor him.
But Barcelona are not rushing to make a decision about his future. The Catalans will decide on whether he is to continue at the club or be sold only after the appointment of a new coach in the summer, or when it becomes clear that Xavi will remain for another season in the dugout.
The club will then decide whether he will participate in the upcoming preseason or if he is to be sold, as his value continues to rise. For now, what is certain is that he will not continue in the third division of Spanish football, and will take the next step in his career this summer.
