There is consistent controversy in the world of football, and Barcelona are no strangers to it. Many times in the past, Barcelona themselves have been caught up in messy ordeals. Even in recent memory, the Negreira case is one that lives to confuse and taint the honor of a historic club.
However, even individual players can sometimes be caught up in these messy situations. Controversial comments, such as the case of Gundogan’s words after the Clasico defeat, are a regular occurrence in football.
The latest player involved in such a scenario is none other than Barcelona defender Jules Kounde. While on duty with the French National team, as highlighted by AS, the player took the opportunity to talk publicly about the ongoing issues with UEFA according to him.
First and foremost, he emphasized upon the increased number of games and the intensity of matches. Acknowledging that the sport has now become more demanding than ever, he explained it to be a factor in the increasing number of injuries:
“The pace of the games is becoming more and more intense. It is increasingly dangerous, with a constant increase in injuries.”
The Barcelona player then went on to criticize the lack of technology that UEFA has incorporated as well. Possibly referring to controversial goal-line decisions, Kounde went further and stated:
“They (UEFA) have a lot of money and they can not invest enough to determine if there is a goal or not.”
Taking it a step further, the 25-year-old further went on to suggest that UEFA should be held more accountable and give more to the players if they expect them to oblige with their newly extended and exhaustive calendars.
“We should ask more from UEFA. If they want more games to be played, we must demand better technology.”
Kounde next returns to action for Barcelona against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. With the international break now officially over, the Catalan giants can turn their attention back towards La Liga. In particular, towards overcoming a team that Xavi Hernandez has had little luck against since taking over at Barça.
