After the prodigious Pau Cubarsi, another FC Barcelona youngster, Mikayil Faye, now seems destined to be the next to announce himself at the highest level.
The 19-year-old has been performing at a very high level for Barcelona Atletic since his arrival last summer, and his recent performance for the senior Senegal team has catapulted him to prominence once again in the football market.
Faye scored a spectacular goal in his debut with the Senegal national team, and since that performance, there have been constant rumors linking him to clubs spread across Europe.
But according to SPORT, despite these rumors, the only club that has been actually interested in the defender and making efforts to sign him is the French side, Lens.
In the last winter window, Lens had made a loan offer for Faye, with a mandatory purchase clause set at €9 million. However, that proposal was rejected by FC Barcelona, as the Catalans look to continue counting on the growth and progression of the player under Rafa Marquez.
However, the French side is also not giving up on its pursuit of the Senegalese, and reports from Senegal indicate that they are readying another offer for him in the coming days. This time, Lens is considering a direct transfer while paying a fee slightly in excess of €9 million.
Meanwhile, other big European clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also been interested in Faye, with both these sides looking to strengthen the center of their defense, and the latter also having been strongly linked with Ronald Araujo.
For his part, Faye continues to remain with his national team, and will be looking to further enhance his stock by giving another impressive performance against Benin. His national team coach, Aliou Cisse, has been full of praise for him, and is highly likely to give him another chance to get on the pitch in this match.
