Even with him coming out in a press conference to denounce the lies spread by the media about his contract and even Deco supporting him, Frenkie de Jong’s contract situation and future at FC Barcelona still remains subject to a high degree of speculation.
But despite this lack of stability that he is facing at Barcelona, there is no doubt that he remains one of the best midfielders currently in Europe, and his quality has resulted in a never-ending demand for his services.
This is the case in the current European market too. As SPORT has noted, there are several big European clubs waiting in the wings to try to sign the Dutchman if his relationship with Barcelona deteriorates in the coming months.
One of these clubs is the French powerhouse Paris Saint Germain, which is going to lose its star player, Kylian Mbappe, this summer. The Parisians will be looking to remodel their squad with the Frenchman’s departure and can offer around €60 million for De Jong’s services in their next sporting project.
Similarly, Tottenham have also been another side that has shown its interest in getting the midfielder and will be open to offering an amount similar to what PSG will be offering, i.e., around €60 million.
Then there is Manchester United as well, a club that already came close to signing the Barcelona star back in 2022. At that time, the Premier League side had put in an offer of around €85 million for the midfielder.
The Blaugranes desperately needed money at that time, and the Sporting Director, Mateu Alemany, was in favour of accepting the offer from United. However, the player himself was not too keen on leaving Barcelona, as he always wanted only to succeed at the Catalan club.
Ultimately Joan Laporta came to the support of the Dutchman as the relationship between Barcelona and Frenkie were deteriorating.
As for Manchester United, they signed the Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro after having failed in their bid for De Jong. But with the Red Devils again looking to remodel their squad this summer, Frenkie will once again be in their sights.
