French winger publishes letter on his social media reflecting on his time at Barcelona

Former Barcelona winger Dembele

French winger Ousmane Dembele has officially left FC Barcelona today as his transfer to PSG has been announced by the French club. The winger will leave the Camp Nou side after six seasons at the club, as he arrived to Barcelona in 2017 for €105 million.

Now Dembele has reached an agreement with PSG, under which he will join the French side, and Barcelona would get €50.4 million.

As he has already played his last game in Blaugrana colors, he said goodbye to Barcelona with a letter that he published on Instagram, which was accompanied by a number of pictures of him wearing Barcelona shirt, and whose contents have been reported by Mundo Deportivo.

His letter ran as follows:

“As most of you already know, I have decided to start a new challenge. But I did not want to leave without first thanking all the people from Barcelona who have supported me during all these years: teammates, coaches, club workers, and managers.”

Dembele went on to say:

“I have grown as a footballer and as a person and it has been a pride and an honor to wear the ‘Blaugrana’ shirt. Without a doubt, I take with me many memories that will always be in my heart.”

While Dembele has thanked most of the people he worked with during his time at Barcelona, he did not thank the club’s fans and supporters in this letter.

It would be pertinent to note here that Dembele reached a low-point of relationship with the club’s fans when he and his agent dragged their feet over a contract renewal, after having underperformed on the fans’ expectations, who were hoping to see more effort and more involvement from a more than €100 million signing.

However, Dembele had been able to repair this relationship with his performances over the second half of the 2021-22 season, and his not mentioning the fans in this farewell letter certainly raises some eyebrows.
