Barcelona are currently in the crossfires of various European sides competing for the absolute top-level targets in exchange for substantial amounts of financial compensations, something the Catalans themselves cannot, at the moment, partake in.
Thus, departures are a must for Xavi Hernandez’s side in order to generate additional revenue as well as free up unwanted salary space. The recent termination of Samuel Umtit’s contract at Barcelona was a strong start, but there are others to attend to as well.
As has been reported by SPORT, Dutch giants and recent league winners Feyenoord are interested in Barcelona right-back Julian Araujo, who the Catalans have thus far been unable to utilize in any of their official games due to contractual and registration-based complications.
Having arrived from the MLS in February of this year, the former LA Galaxy fullback and player for the Mexican National team has thus far been completely unable to play European football and has been left in a limbo of sorts, only being eligible to participate in training sessions and a friendly game against Vissel Kobe.
If this interest from Eredivisie side Feyenoord materializes, it would reportedly also be partly due to the good word and recommendation of Santiago Gimenez, Mexican teammate of Araujo’s, who currently plays as a striker for the Dutch side and has prior experience with the 21-year-old fullback.
With Barcelona already hoping to bring in Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid this summer and incorporate him as the team’s primary right back, while simultaneously having access to the versatile options of Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, and Alejandro Balde, Xavi and co believe themselves to already be well stacked in terms of options and in no dire need of Julian Araujo to stay at the club.
It remains to be seen how much depth is in this interest from the Dutch side and what kind of agreement FC Barcelona and Feyenoord are able to reach in regards to the future of the player if an official offer does end up coming in.
