There have been a lot of different reasons for FC Barcelona to celebrate the season that they have been having. It has been a rather long time since the club felt as strong or confident about themselves as they do so in this campaign. In fact, many onlookers now see Barcelona as one of the main threats in Europe again as well.
However, the excellence that Barcelona is enjoying this season is helped by several positive factors that band together. The most obvious of those factors is Hansi Flick, the German coach who has instilled a new sense of purpose and commitment into this squad and it is proving to be fruitful as the players follow his instructions.
Yet, another great reason to smile at FC Barcelona this season has been the return of several injured players. However, perhaps the most anticipated of those returns was that of Gavi, the Spanish midfielder who ended up having to spend most of his previous season on the sidelines after suffering an ACL injury.
Now back and available for selection again, the young Barcelona midfielder continues to impress under Hansi Flick’s orders despite having barely played any minutes. The reason behind these limited opportunities, and rather understandably, is to ensure that no relapse or aggravation ends up becoming an issue for the Barcelona player.
Even the player himself understands this and wants to take things one step at a time. As highlighted by SPORT, he recently spoke at an event while promoting Barça One and explained that his current objective is much more grounded than most people would think:
“I feel really good. Improving gradually. I was out for a long time, and my priority now is to regain my pace and be on par with my teammates.”
As such, he understands that other players in the team currently have a better standing and are in a position to start regularly. However, Gavi’s personal goal remains to catch up to speed and be in a position where he can be of service to Barcelona as a starter as well at some point during the season.
So far, he has played minutes against the likes of Sevilla, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid. While the appearances were more like cameos rather than actual involvements, it is still a great first step for Gavi given the duration of his recovery and the kind of injury that he had to suffer and get through, and having Gavi in the team is always a recipe for memorable moments.
