FC Barcelona have used the January transfer window to go on a contract renewal spree, tying down a number of players in the squad to new, long-term deals. While most clubs look to do transfer business, the Catalan club seems keener on keeping their own.

Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Pedri and now Gavi have signed new deals with the club. The latest to put pen to paper on a new contract was the last name on the above list, who has extended his stay at the club until 2030.

Having just returned from a long-term ACL injury a few months ago, Gavi has slowly yet surely returned to his very best. Hansi Flick has now made him a starter and his game seems to be improving with every passing minute.

Rewarded with a new contract, Gavi who is the present but also the future of the club, sent a heartfelt message to the Barcelona fans in a short video shared by the club’s official handles, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. It was very typical of the 20-year-old who embodies the club’s spirit like no one else. He said:

“Culés, I’m very happy to renew with the club of my life, and I hope we bring you lots of joy this season. I’m very happy. This could be one of the best days of my life, being able to stay at the club of my dreams. I hope there are many more years to come.”

Gavi then went on to express gratitude to the likes of Joan Laporta and Deco for having placed immense trust in him. He continued:

“Both the president, Deco, and Bojan have always trusted me and have shown it to me, and I’m very happy because of that as well. We have a squad with a great future, and I hope we can win many titles with this team.”

The 20-year-old then went on to speak about La Masia, his personal goal for the season, and finished with a short yet sweet message. He said:

“It’s a great example for the young players at La Masia. They see that many of us have reached the first team, and they dream of doing the same”

“First of all, finishing the season without any injuries. I’ve been out for a long time, and this season was about getting back into rhythm. With my mentality, I’ve come back even better than before, and I hope to finish the season in top form. Trust in us! We’re showing a lot this season, and the fans are happy—that’s exactly what we want, for them to be happy and to believe in us.”

It was important for Barcelona to tie down the likes of Gavi to a new contract and credit where it is due for Deco for making it happen. He still has work to do though, with the future of Frenkie de Jong also delicately in the balance.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the likes of De Jong but having wrapped up the contract situation of Araujo, Pedri, and Gavi this winter transfer window, Barcelona can now shift their focus to the sporting side of it and let’s wait and see how they perform in the remainder of the season.
