There were a lot of expectations from FC Barcelona this season, as the Catalans had won two important trophies last season, and also made some high-profile additions to their squad in the summer.

However, owing to various factors, Xavi’s men have not been able to get the required results, and thus find it difficult to win any piece of silverware going into the decisive phase of the season.

One of these factors that had a great and drastic impact on the club was the injury suffered by Gavi. The Spaniard was injured while on international duty with Spain on November 19th, and even the early tests carried out on him showed that he had suffered from a significant injury.

More detailed tests confirmed that the midfielder had torn his ACL, and he was set to miss the rest of the season with this issue. The player has already missed 21 official matches up to now with this injury, and in hindsight, this injury has had a disastrous impact on Xavi.

But in recent weeks, there were some positive news coming in related to Gavi, as it was reported that the midfielder is recovering at a rapid pace, and can in fact even return to the pitch this season.

However, the journalist Achraf ben Ayad now reports that Barcelona are not going to take any risks with the former Golden Boy, and will not rush him back to action, irrespective of how he is feeling. Thus, he is scheduled to make his return only at the start of the next season.

Meanwhile, other than Gavi himself and Alejandro Balde, who is also out for a significant period of time with an injury, Xavi has gotten most of his players back and will get the remaining ones, like Ferran Torres, in the days to come.
