Given the complications faced by FC Barcelona on both the sporting front and facing various economic problems, the Catalan giants have had to cut corners in certain aspects and ensure that the targets they choose to follow are feasible in that regard.

Despite their intentions to successfully register various players, both existing and new, as well as incorporate new signings within this new look FC Barcelona side, the rulings of Financial Fairplay continue to take their toll on the operations of FC Barcelona.

Similar instances have been overcome in the past by getting players to defer their salaries so a more significant salary margin can be attained and then worked on by Blaugranes, and it seems a similar case could be repeated.

FC Barcelona and German National team goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen has reportedly agreed to a contract extension until 2028, according to Spanish journalist Luis Rojo of MARCA, with the extension prolonging his stay at Barcelona that was previously expected to expire in 2025.

The 31-year-old has also agreed to defer a massive part of his salary for the current season as well as the next in order to help Barcelona be able to generate more FFP this season and be able to more easily register players and incorporate new signings.

As a result, while his aid will be crucial in the short term, his salary is expected to increase exponentially in the last 3 years of his contract from 2025 onwards until 2028, by which point the Barcelona keeper would be aged somewhere around 36.

Ter Stegen is currently the second captain of FC Barcelona but due to the rotation-based role of first captain Sergi Roberto, the German typically plays as the primary captain for the Catalan giants. His decision to defer his salary will come as a great example at a desperate time to those around him, and more importantly, as he remains one of the most consistent and quality players within the team on top of that as well.
