With the end of the current season, several FC Barcelona players will have to depart the club in the coming summer transfer window, as the Catalans face problems with FFP and will have to say goodbye to some players to be able to get new ones.

In such a context, several important players of the Blaugrana club have been linked with moves away from Barcelona in recent months and weeks. Meanwhile, the Catalans will also be looking to shed some of the weight from their wage bill by getting rid of most of their fringe players.

One player who falls in this latter category and who looks highly likely to leave Barcelona in the coming months is the midfielder Oriol Romeu, who returned to the club only last summer but has been unable to carve out a clear role for himself in the team despite having gotten a string of chances earlier in the season.

As fate would have it, the midfielder would likely not have to travel very far this summer, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Girona, another Catalan club, is interested in getting him back this summer, with both the head coach, Michel, and the Sporting Director, Quique Carcel, being great admirers of Oriol Romeu.

Girona’s officials have previously publicly acknowledged him as an option for them this summer, especially as they fondly remember how he contributed to the team in his first spell, both sportingly and personally.

Furthermore, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the midfield at Girona, which further compels the Catalan club to look for options around the market.

On the other hand, Romeu understands that he is not going to have a lot of prominence in the Barcelona team in the coming season as well, and thus he is also receptive to the idea of returning to the team where he was once recognized as their best player of the season.

With his heart already set on returning to Girona, Romeu will not cause any significant problems for them, and thus, Michel’s side will only have to pay around €3 million, the same figure that Barcelona spent to obtain his services last summer, to the Blaugranes to ensure his return.
