There are only a few days left in the summer transfer market, but FC Barcelona still have a lot of business still to finish. Having brought in some quality additions early, the club would now be focusing mostly on concluding the sales of some of its players.
These sales are essential for the club in the short term, as the club needs some margin in their wage bill to be able to register their new players. The Catalans have already identified some players who they are more open to selling, but would also not hesitate to sell an established player if a suitable offer comes in.
Girona interested in Eric Garcia
The number one priority of the club to offload in the coming days is Clement Lenglet. The Catalans have been trying to offload him throughout the summer window, but have not yet met success in this operation. Furthermore, Ansu Fati and Ez Abde are other players that can be sold by Barcelona this week.
SPORT now reports that there is another player who has generated interest in the market, and who can be sold in the coming days, i.e., Eric Garcia. The report mentions that the La Liga side, Girona, is interested in the player. The Girona coach, Michel, particularly likes Garcia because of his ability to play both at the center of the defense and as a pivot.
Eric Garcia quite low in the pecking order at Barcelona
Eric Garcia, who had trained at La Masia early in his career, returned to Barcelona in 2021 after having played at Manchester City in between these two Barcelona spells. He came with much expectations and fanfare, but his career has not exactly gone according to these expectations.
He is currently not a very conspicuous part of Xavi’s plans, as he has Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, and possibly Marcos Alonso all above him in the pecking order.
Garcia has been a part of the substitutes in the first two Barcelona games, and played 11 minutes in the game against Cadiz. However, he would not be getting this much time once Martinez and Araujo come back from their injuries, and keeping in mind the FFP problems at Barcelona, going to Girona can be beneficial for both the player and the club.
