The finances of FC Barcelona have been a source of constant problems for the club for the last few years. Unable to bring their finances, and particularly the wage bill, in line with La Liga’s requirements, the club is facing a number of sporting problems as well, including not getting new contracts of its players registered with La Liga.
Having faced this issue with the registration of Gavi’s new contract, the club also faces a potential threat to their latest acquisition.
According to SPORT, Gundogan’s contract with FC Barcelona includes a clause that if the club is unable to get him registered with La Liga by the time of the first league fixture in next season, the player would have the right to get a letter of freedom from the club.
The report further mentions that Gundogan has expressly requested to include this clause in his contract, as he does not want to experience the difficulties that Jules Kounde faced last season. The Frenchman had to miss the first few games of the season because La Liga was not registering his contract after his arrival to Camp Nou.
FC Barcelona on their part have tried to convince Gundogan that they have everything under control, and will easily get him registered by July 1. The club is looking to use its resources that it had planned to use for bringing Lionel Messi back to the club to ensure that the German is registered by La Liga by this time.
The club has officially announced Gundogan as an FC Barcelona player yesterday, and the player has a two-year contract with the club which can be extended for a further year.
However, if the club is not able to comply with La Liga’s wage restrictions and get the player registered with La Liga before the first league game, there is a possibility that the player can leave the club without making any official appearance.
