There are only a few hours left in this summer transfer window, and according to the latest updates coming from the media, it is quite unlikely that FC Barcelona will undertake any business on the deadline day of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, there was still the possibility of one of the defenders leaving the club, as there were reports linking Eric Garcia with Girona. He spent the last season on loan in Michel’s team, and the President of the Catalan club yesterday showed his hope of getting him again for this season.
However, this move also looks highly unlikely now as Flick has confirmed that Garcia will remain with Barcelona for this season. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German tactician was talking to the press ahead of the match against Real Valladolid. In regards to Garcia’s future, Flick said: “Yes, I can confirm that he will continue.”
Furthermore, the German trainer also talked about the different ways in which he can use the former Manchester City defender in his team:
“His natural position is center-back, but it’s good to have players who can play in several positions. You have to adapt and it’s good to have players like Eric or Rapha up front who can play in other positions. Eric will have to play more as a central midfielder.”
Eric Garcia staying in Barcelona is definitely good news for the Catalan club. As Flick himself noted, he can play at multiple positions on the pitch, and with the dearth of options at both center-back and midfield pivot positions, the €20m-rated player’s availability will surely be appreciated by the German coach.
But judging from Flick’s comments, the Spaniard, may have to play much more as a midfielder than as a defender. This is especially the case as Oriol Romeu has left the club, while Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, and Andreas Christensen are also all out with injuries.
