Hansi Flick gives his verdict on Rodri’s debut as Barcelona beat Athletic Club

FC Barcelona have just managed to beat Athletic Club in what was their second game of the official season. This was also their second La Liga game in this campaign and the Catalan giants are certainly enjoying themselves with two victories from two games.

Heading into this particular fixture, however, the Catalan giants had a lot to be excited about. Beyond just the fact that they would get to showcased their talent in front of the home crowd in this game, Barça would also be welcoming their latest summer arrival for his debut.

Rodri, signed from Manchester City this summer, finally made his long awaited debut for La Blaugrana at the Spotify Camp Nou. Coming into the game as a substitute in the 63rd minute, the Spanish midfielder had a solid outing and helped Barça see out the rest of the game.

After the match, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick was full of praise for the player and even commended the way he compliments the team:

“Everyone is happy that Rodri is playing with us. He is the perfect player for us, for our style.”

That kind of praise is hardly normal, but it also showcases the planning and meticulous attention to detail that the Barcelona staff did before acquiring the player. Beyond just Rodri’s performance, however, Flick also praised Marc Bernal’s display:

“(Marc) Bernal also had a fantastic game.”

As for Rodri, the Spanish midfielder played 27 minutes in this clash and had an 88% pass completion rate. He also created a chance for his teammates and was heavily involved in much of the team’s defensive work late in the game. Beyond that, his leadership and ability to connect with his teammates was visible on the pitch as well, and it is certainly an exciting development for both the Barcelona players and the fans as well.
