This is certainly the beginning of a new phase at FC Barcelona, and it becomes clearer by the day. Hansi Flick is now in charge of the club, and the incorporation of the German coach brought a lot of excitement. At Barcelona, the arrival of such a coach is a unique incident and it has been quite some time since a UCL-winning manager took charge of the club.
However, even ahead of his arrival, many already associated one key aspect of the game with Flick’s vision of football. That aspect was a total and complete focus on physicality, and how the former Bayern Munich coach was obsessed with a high-intensity brand of football that requires immense physical training.
Now, as the days go by with Flick actually at the club, it becomes evidently clear that this is true. According to AS, the new Barcelona coach has introduced a new policy at the club that is never before seen for the Catalan giants and it is the first time any coach is implementing it.
The new Barça head coach now wants there to be detailed dental examinations and records of his players. Previously, the club mainly focused on anthropometric tests, blood and urine analysis, podiatric tests, and cardiological examinations. This implementation of dental tests is a completely new inclusion but one that almost feels unsurprising given Flick’s history.
Interestingly, many studies in the past have shown a direct correlation between dental health and physical fitness, according to AS. Those studies have proven that players and athletes with poor dental hygiene and sickness tend to be more prone to injuries across various sports.
For this reason, it seems important that even Barcelona is now administrating such a change. A new dentist has now been added to the medical team and it is becoming a required pre-season test that every player has to undergo ahead of joining Hansi Flick’s camp.
