The center of the defense was one of the areas where FC Barcelona had a surplus of players in the last summer transfer window. Still, Hansi Flick has not had a lot of options for this area of the field since the start of this season.

This is mainly because of injuries suffered by Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, while Eric Garcia has also joined these two players in the infirmary recently.

In such a context, the Blaugranes have been closely linked with the German defender Jonathan Tah in recent months, especially as his contract with Bayer Leverkusen ends at the end of this season, and his agent has already made it clear that Tah will not renew his contract.

Citing the German newspaper Bild, now SPORT reports that Hansi Flick is also keen to have him in his squad and is already talking to people close to him to convince him to join FC Barcelona.

Tah is currently evaluating two options for his future: Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The defender has already turned down offers from Inter Milan and Juventus, as he’s not particularly interested in playing in Italy.

This leaves him with the choice of staying in Germany with Bayern Munich or moving to Spain. While Barcelona remains one of the main contenders in Spain, Real Madrid had also considered signing him in January following injuries to several key defenders.

However, Madrid’s interest has cooled, as they are unwilling to pay more than €10 million for a player they could potentially acquire for free in six months.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Tah could be boosted by his agent, Pini Zahavi, who also represents Hansi Flick and Robert Lewandowski. Zahavi enjoys strong connections with Barcelona, though he is equally well-regarded by Bayern Munich.

As it stands, these two clubs are likely to compete for Tah’s signature in the coming months. Only time will tell how this transfer saga unfolds.
