This summer will be an important one for FC Barcelona for many different reasons. La Blaugrana will finally get to see new coach Hansi Flick get to work, alongside getting to work towards making new signings. However, keeping last season’s failures in mind, Barcelona is working towards making a more competent squad.
While the sporting sector of the club focuses on making signings and enabling departures, the coaching staff has finally been put to work. After a long wait, Hansi Flick and his new assistants got to work on the Barcelona training ground with their available squad.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has officially concluded their first training day under Hansi Flick. A day rather than a session because the German coach decided to hold a double session on his very first day leading the Barça squad onto the field.
As per MD, the first training session began at 9:30 am and the second training session started at 6:30 pm on the same day. Both training sessions were heavily focused on physical training and endurance, showcasing the primary intentions of the new coach.
Much of the squad consisted of reserve players and youth talents from Barcelona as well. The likes of the two Fernandez cousins, Guille and Toni, Unai Hernandez, Hector Fort, Marc Casado, Mikayil Faye, Ander Astralaga, Quim Junyent, Sergi Dominguez, Trilli, Noah Darvich, Angel Alarcon, Gerard Martin, and Marc Bernal were all participating in the training.
As for the first team members, Inaki Pena, Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque, Oriol Romeu, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and Julian Araujo were all present as well. However, as per MD, while Gavi mainly focused on individual training on the grass without the ball, Balde participated in active training and showed good promise despite not being fully fit just yet.
Another injured Barcelona star, Frenkie de Jong, also did individual work in the gym. It is suspected that the Dutchman will need some more time to fully recover and some reports suggest that it could take close to a month before he returns.
This recent training day also showed glimpses of Flick’s new coaching staff. Every new Barcelona member seemed to be assigned a different role, and it set a tone for discipline and coordination under this new rule of the German coach.
Other first-team members will gradually begin to arrive as well, especially since the various international continental tournaments are set to conclude soon.
