This summer saw the return of one of the former FC Barcelona players to the club as Thiago Alcantara joined Hansi Flick’s staff. The former midfielder had retired after completing his contract with Liverpool last season and joined the Catalan side to help his former coach, Hansi Flick, get acclimatized to the new club and its squad.
He joined his former side only because of his friendship with Flick, and was not getting paid for his assistance, and was also not a part of the official staff that Barcelona unveiled before the Joan Gamper trophy match.
Now, believing that this objective has been achieved, Thiago has already overseen his last training session on Friday. He will thus leave the Catalan side, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Flick was uncertain whether he will return to Barcelona in the future, as the German tactician talked to the press ahead of his team’s 2024-25 season-opener against Valencia:
“We’ve had an excellent relationship since he played in Munich. We called each other when he finished his career, and I told him he would be an excellent coach. He has helped the team and is a great person.”
“Now he’s leaving, and we have Arnau from La Masia, who is also giving us a lot of support. He wants to focus on his family, which is very understandable. I don’t know if he will return or not.”
As Flick himself mentioned, Arnau Blanco will now take up the role that Thiago was performing in the pre-season, while other trainers like Marcus Sorg, Toni Tapalovic, and Heiko Westermann will also be assisting the German tactician with the management of the Blaugrana team.
Hopefully, Thiago will make his return to Barcelona in some capacity in the future, but for now, Cules will be looking forward to winning some of the big titles with Flick in charge of the team.
