The appointment of Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona was one that was met with a positive reaction. Many fans of the club believed that the German coach was the right kind of addition that this Catalan side desperately needed. Ultimately, his arrival has massively improved this Barcelona team in terms of their efficiency and output.
However, at the same time, his appointment came right after the controversial departure of Xavi Hernandez. Formerly a Barcelona icon as a player and the predecessor to Hansi Flick as the head coach of the team, there is a lot about Xavi’s legacy at the club which makes him so dead to the fans.
Unfortunately, regardless of how well Hansi Flick is doing, the end of Xavi’s tenure as Barcelona’s head coach was considered to be premature. Consequently, many initially suspected that the former coach would possibly have harbored some less-than-positive feelings towards the club and whoever would end up replacing him.
Yet, the reality has been quite different for Xavi and how he continues to feel about Barcelona. As always, he remains a culer at heart and still supports the club as he has always done. Moreover, he even recently met with Hansi Flick and directed a positive message towards him as well.
Now, as highlighted by SPORT, even Hansi Flick has spoken out about his relationship with Xavi and he claims that both of them have always been on good terms:
“The welcome to the club has been incredible. I already had a good relationship with Xavi, I knew him before, and I waited a few days to reach out to him.”
Right afterwards, the current Barcelona head coach also confirmed that it was him who reached out to Xavi to arrange a meeting between the two. Ultimately, both the current and former Barça managers decided to meet over coffee:
“I asked him if we could have coffee together, and we did. I have a lot of respect for Xavi, and it was a very pleasant meeting. I also got to meet his family; we live nearby. The rest is private between Xavi and me.”
So far, Hansi Flick has done a great job with building on what Xavi left behind. That also includes the several youngsters who got their first opportunities under the former coach and are now enjoying the best possible kind of support from their new manager in this ongoing season.
