There is no doubt that the injury suffered by Marc Andre Ter Stegen in the match against Villarreal can turn out to be a costly affair for FC Barcelona. The German goalkeeper is expected to miss the rest of the season due to this issue.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have taken the necessary steps to minimize the impact of this major injury suffered by such an important player. They already had a reliable option in the form of Inaki Pena in their squad, but also signed Wojciech Szczesny two weeks ago to add another highly reliable option for this position who also has significant experience playing at the highest level.

But this goalkeeping position can create a good headache for Hansi Flick, as this is a position that does not need a lot of rotations, and both these goalkeepers will be looking to play as much as possible.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German tactician addressed this situation as he appeared in front of the journalists for the press conference ahead of the game against Sevilla.

Flick commented on Szczesny’s recent revelation that he is ready to play for his new club: “It’s fine for him to say he’s ready, but there’s no reason for Iñaki Peña not to play”

The trainer went on to make it clear that Pena will be the starting goalkeeper for the upcoming two games and he is not considering rotation for the goalkeeper position: “That’s not the idea. Iñaki Peña will play today and next Wednesday. And I would add that we are happy that Szczesny is ready to play.”

Despite the confidence shown in him by Flick, these two games will be key for Pena, and he will have to give his best performance to ensure he retains the starting position in the team going forward.
