FC Barcelona stick to their winning ways in La Liga and have just won their third consecutive match of the campaign. An important 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Spotify Camp Nou, Flick’s team looks incredible right now during this early stage of the season.
However, it still does not mean that the German tactician is fully satisfied just yet. It is clear to see that the coach believes his team can reach even higher heights and that there is still a lot of room for improvement in certain areas.
Following the game, as quoted by SPORT, Flick gave his immediate reaction to the match and highlighted the positive things that he saw first:
“We played very well in the first half. I liked many of the things I saw in the first half. The goal is something that can happen, but I really liked our reaction.”
However, he also stated that the team needs to control games better whenever they hold a lead to ensure that it does not become complicated, and that is something Rayo Vallecano managed to do today:
“When you’re 3-1 up, you have to control the game better. We have the quality to do that. This is the attitude of our team: they always want to attack, but sometimes it is better to calm the game down.”
As for new summer signing Rodri, Flick seems to believe that the player can still improve even more physically and that he will help Barcelona more as time passes:
“Rodri can be key in these games; that is why he is here. He needs to improve physically because he has only been here for two days.”
Lastly, Flick reacted positively to the way that Barcelona managed to turn things around and react after conceding early. However, he also mentioned that he believes there are certain aspects where his team needs to do much better, particularly when dealing with set pieces:
“How we reacted after the goal is important to me. We have to control the ball more. We are talking about ourselves, but they also did very well. They have very quick players. For me, we have to improve at defending corners. In these situations, we need to perform much better.”
Ultimately, however, the German coach can be happy with the result that his team has managed to secure. Thanks to this victory, La Blaugrana remain at the top of the league table and will head into their next league fixture with even more confidence as well as a new signing to potentially help them out as well.
