As things stand, the only player that FC Barcelona have added to their squad in the current winter transfer window is Vitor Roque, who was signed last summer but joined his new club in January.
However, there is one more signing that Barcelona are highly likely to complete very soon. Lucas Bergvall, one of the greatest talents to arise in Sweden, is already in the city of Barcelona and can complete his agreement with the Catalan club in the next few hours or days.
Bergvall was one of the players highly liked by the Blaugrana hierarchy and had also attracted the interest of other great clubs in Europe even before making the move to Djurgardens IF, his current club. However, he decided to continue developing in his home country before making the big jump to a major European league.
As SPORT has noted, it was in the 2018 Madrid Football Cup that Bergvall aroused the interest of some of the biggest teams in the world. He was the MVP in the final against Atletico de Madrid, and Manchester United tried to sign him in 2021. Manchester City were also interested in him at that time.
Meanwhile, Barcelona, with their extensive scouting network, also had the youngster on their radar, especially as Bergvall won five of the most important tournaments with Brommapojkarna. His early performances with Djurgardens further strengthened the Blaugranes’ interest in him.
Since joining Djurgardens, Bergvall has readied himself to make the jump to the footballing elite. He has already represented the senior Sweden side, playing more than half an hour in his debut game against Estonia.
Barcelona see the youngster as a modern midfielder and are thus willing to pay up to €10 million for him, €7 million fixed, and another €3 million in variables. Deco is particularly pushing to complete his signing, as waiting more can result in him escaping to another club.
