Over the course of the last summer transfer window, FC Barcelona were linked to several big names. Moreover, due to the European Championship also going on, a lot of new targets emerged throughout the course of the transfer window. Ultimately, however, most of those names did not end up coming over to Barcelona.

For most fans, some names were far more prominently displayed in reports than others. Every other news update or rumor surrounding Barcelona and their transfer targets would, most of the time, bring up the name of Athletic Club star Nico Williams.

One of the key players for Spain at the Euros, the young winger was seen by many as the perfect option for Barcelona given his understanding with the rest of his teammates at the National level who also happened to be Barça players. Due to that connection and the fact that he is an undeniably talented player, his signing would have made perfect sense.

Ultimately, however, nothing came out of all that speculation. Instead, Nico Williams remained with his Basque club where he has decided to continue playing this season as he hopes to help them out with their European dream. Barcelona, on the other hand, continue to fly high on their own under Hansi Flick.

In a recent post-match interview, however, Nico’s older brother, Inaki Williams, was asked to comment about his younger sibling’s summer. As highlighted by SPORT, the other Athletic Club forward ended up revealing that it was a rather hard situation for them to get through:

“It’s been a pretty tough summer. I felt really bad for my brother because a lot of things were being said, and most of them weren’t true. He handled it really well, though. He made his own decision, he has no regrets, and he’s very happy. We’re all happy because it was his choice.”

For now, both brothers remain together in the Basque club which they call home. However, the Nico Williams saga is not expected to end here, as next summer Barcelona could look to make another potential move for him if the stars align. As of right now, the Catalan giants are doing just fine and even have other interesting dilemmas to address.
