The last few weeks have been quite important for FC Barcelona and can go on to have a significant impact on how the season turns out for the Blaugranes.

This is not only because of the matches they have won over some of the biggest teams in Europe, like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid but also because of the recovery of some of their key players.

Several midfielders like Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, and Gavi have all returned to the field in the last few weeks after spending some time on the sidelines. All of them have played some minutes, but Frenkie and Gavi are yet to make their first starts for Barcelona this season.

The Dutchman is likely to get this first start tonight, in the game against Red Star Belgrade. However, Gavi might still need some time to get back to his best and be in a position to play a game from the very start, keeping in view the nature of his injury and the time he had to sit away from the pitch.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Hansi Flick gave an idea of how he is planning to bring Gavi back to the pitch as he spoke to the press ahead of the game against the Serbian side:

“I spoke with him, and we’ve decided to take it step by step. He’ll gradually get more minutes depending on how the games go. He played a bit against Espanyol, and he’s doing very well in training. He gives us more ball control.”

Although he is not back to his best yet, the €90m-rated gem has been getting some minutes in the last few games. As he himself commented, Flick looks to be taking a gradual approach to his return to ensure that he does not suffer any relapses, and is able to get perfectly ready for the second half of the season.
