The recent collapse suffered by FC Barcelona came at the worst possible time for the team. After having lost their last game against Real Sociedad, this game now becomes the second time in a row that the Catalan giants have dropped points in La Liga. Unfortunately for Barcelona, that is great news for their rivals.
Many different sequences and factors eventually led to Barcelona collapsing against Celta Vigo in this most recent encounter. Despite winning 2-0 heading into the final minutes of the game, the Catalan side ended up conceding two goals in quick succession to make it 2-2 by the final whistle.
Beyond the errors made by Jules Kounde, another major turning point that may have been the catalyst to the collapse in question was the second yellow card that Marc Casado got. An unnecessary pull from the young Spaniard saw him get sent off in the game, and it was a mistake that Barcelona paid the price for.
After the game, however, the player did not hold back and took accountability for his mistake. As highlighted by SPORT, the young midfielder’s message online made it clear that he wanted to apologize for his fatal error but that he wants to continue fighting moving forward:
“First of all, I want to apologize to both the team and the fans. These are decisions made in fractions of a second, and it’s clear that today’s wasn’t the right one. We will keep working hard for what’s ahead. Visca el Barça.”
So far this season, Casado has been giving great performances game after game. One of the consistent performers for Hansi Flick’s team this season, this uncharacteristic display from him will undoubtedly be an eye-opener that should reveal to him the fact that he is not invincible.
Errors such as the one he made are unforgiving at the highest level of football. Marc Casado needs to understand this, and this game will undoubtedly serve as a learning moment for him that he should not forget any time soon. Unfortunately for him, however, the consequences of this red card go beyond this game.
In the next fixture against Las Palmas in La Liga, the Barcelona midfielder will be unable to participate due to his red card. Instead, Hansi Flick will need to find alternative options as the side literally can not afford to drop any more points given that their lead at the top of the table would be reduced to just one point if Real Madrid win both of their games in hand.
