The upcoming match between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain is one of the most exciting ties in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final stage, not only because both the teams want to win the tournament, but also because of the history between the two clubs.
Barcelona had beaten PSG on one of their most memorable nights in the competition, but the Parisians were able to beat the Catalans with a 5-2 score on aggregate as they faced off against them in the Round of 16 in the 2020-21 season.
In this last encounter, the French forward Kylian Mbappe was one of the key players for PSG, and this is also going to be the case as the two sides meet each other in the first leg of the quarter-final this Wednesday at Parc des Princes.
In fact, as Diario AS has reported, the Frenchman himself talked about the upcoming game against Barcelona, and was confident that he will once again be a difference-maker for his team: “It’s the moment for great players: I’m ready and as usual I won’t hide.”
PSG are having a great season, and are still in contention to win all the possible trophies. But Mbappe was still cautious and believed the match against Barcelona will be crucial for his side’s chances of having a historic season:
“Every year, this period is a turning point in the season. At the end of April, we will have an indication of the type of season we are going to have. I’m sure we will give everything, then the result… it’s in God’s hands!”
As has been the case since his arrival at Paris, Mbappe has been a key player for PSG. Only in his side’s last match, he was influential once again as he gave an assist to salvage a draw for his side in the match against the bottom-placed Clermont Foot.
Thus, FC Barcelona will have to take all the necessary precautions to ensure the Frenchman does not cause too much damage in the upcoming game, but will still be confident as they have Kounde, Cubarsi, Araujo, and Cancelo to deal with Mbappe’s threat.
