FC Barcelona have found themselves to be often troubled by their own players. The Catalan giants, despite possessing a plethora of great talents, continue to be haunted by their own inconsistencies. Irrespective of the name in question, Barcelona have faced unique difficulties this season.
Whether it be through unavailability or simply a lack of consistent performance, Barça does not see much confidence in its players. Without the drive to succeed, no star can retain their place at the highest level. However, there are also those who are willing to go to extreme lengths.
One such name is that of Ferran Torres, the ‘shark’ of Barcelona this season. Upon his arrival at the club in 2021, there was a certain buzz of excitement. A former Manchester City player with a knack for scoring goals, his incorporation within Barcelona felt like a great move.
However, following his second and first full season at the club, one that was arguably underwhelming, Torres was placed as a transferable asset. Now on the market, it seemed that things were not going according to plan. Yet, the former City man was not willing to give up that easily.
As highlighted by SPORT, the next step that Ferran Torres took changed his Barcelona destiny. Instead of giving in and looking for new clubs to start afresh, he sent Xavi a direct message on Whatsapp that is identified by SPORT as a symbol of ‘rebellion’.
Telling the Barcelona coach and former legend that he was willing to do anything to succeed, and that he still has much more to give to the team, Torres made his side be heard. Xavi, in turn, was impressed by the words of his player.
While Torres was not in his plans beyond the summer, Xavi chose to give him a chance. Even though there was skepticism about his development at first, it was washed away by the Barcelona forward. Working with much more intent both on and off the field, his hard work began to pay off in games.
Fast forward to the present day, and Torres is the second top scorer of the team this season. The 23-year-old already has 11 goals to his name, and is only a single goal behind Robert Lewandowski. In the latest outing against Real Betis, Torres even managed to score a hattrick and provide an assist.
It seems now that the ‘Shark’ is in the best moment of his Barcelona career. If he can keep things up at this rate, the Catalan club would be the ones to take advantage of it. A tough second half of the season is still yet to be played, but with an in-form Torres, Barça can look forward to it.
