The final stretch of the international break is here, and FC Barcelona could not be more delighted. La Blaugrana, unfortunately, have already lost key players to untimely injuries so far during the international break. However, Barcelona can now rest assured that only a few games remain.

Beyond just the club’s interests, however, are also the interests of the players participating in these competitions. Spain, for instance, still gets to face off against France in a contest that determines which team reaches the final of the European Championship this year.

One of the main stars of the Euros, Lamine Yamal, also happens to be a Barcelona player and a poster boy for the club’s future. The 16-year-old Barça talent has already broken many records, both with his club and now with his nation, but he is still eyeing just one more historic record.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Yamal is aware of the one record that still continues to escape his grasp and that is the title of becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the European Championship. That prestigious record, at the moment, is held by former Swiss international Johan Vonlanthen.

Set by the Swiss winger back in 2004, a record he took over from English icon Wayne Rooney within the same tournament, he set it by scoring against France when he was just 18 years and 141 days old. Since then, no player has come close to breaking that record but young Lamine Yamal from Barcelona now has the record in his sights.

Already having provided three assists in the tournament, the highest by any player, Yamal is also the youngest debutant in the tournament as well as the youngest assist-provider.

However, having already missed out on the chance to become the UEFA Champions League’s youngest-ever goalscorer, a record still held by Ansu Fati of Barcelona, Yamal will not want to let this one evade him as well.

He has one chance to do so, however, and that is in this current edition of the Euros. In the next iteration of the continental tournament, which will take place in 2028, Yamal will already be 20 years old. The Barcelona winger, praised as being ‘impressive’ by David Villa, now has his chance against France in the semi-final.

However, in case he does not manage to score but Spain still manages to overcome France, he will get another chance against either of England or the Netherlands in a hypothetical final. Ideally, however, the Barcelona product will want to make his mark against Les Bleus in the first and only guaranteed opportunity that is being presented to him.
