There is a great deal of excitement within FC Barcelona over their latest generation of players. This generation, which includes both external players and homegrown ones, continues to build up a great promise of success. For a club like Barcelona, things could not have gone smoother in terms of their youngest stars.
The likes of Pedri, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Fermin Lopez, Hector Fort, Pau Cubarsi, and many others are already excelling at rates that far exceed their corresponding ages. However, and arguably by a distance, the most exciting name at FC Barcelona right now is that of Lamine Yamal.
The young 16-year-old winger has already impressed thoroughly with FC Barcelona, breaking multiple records in the process. Now, it is his chance to do the same with Spain at the European Championship, and he has done extraordinarily well so far.
So much so that, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, even a Spanish legend and former Barcelona hero like David Villa could not refrain from praising the youngster for both his age and his quality:
“Incredible, especially if we consider his age. I debuted very young for the National Team, and I did it at 23. It’s incredible what they are doing and the ease with which they do it on and off the field… My daughter is two years older than Lamine!”
Moreover, he compared how Cesc Fabregas, another former FC Barcelona player, was the youngest in the dominant Spain team from 2008 to 2012, and he was still much older than Yamal: “Cesc Fábregas, at 21 years old, I believe, was the youngest.”
This praise from Villa is not the first of its kind when it comes to Lamine Yamal. Others such as Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez, and even Jamal Musiala have gone on to give massive words of praise towards the young Barcelona gem, who only continues to impress with each passing game.
