Now in his second season at FC Barcelona, the Basque defender Inigo Martinez has seen his importance improve exponentially since Hansi Flick took charge of the team.

The defender has not only been a regular starter for the German tactician but has also emerged as the leader of the team’s backline.

Furthermore, his performances and the way he stands up for his teammates have also significantly improved his standing among the fans.

The defender recently appeared in an interview with SPORT, in which one of the aspects he talked about was the offside trap being employed by the team as one of its defensive tactics.

The defender also participated in a game after this interview, which aimed to find out his favorite footballer. For this purpose, he was asked to name the best footballer in several different aspects, and the Spaniard’s responses were as follows:

  • Best player he has played with: Andrés Iniesta
  • Best Spanish player: Xavi Hernández
  • Best player in the world right now: Rodri
  • Best defender in 1vs1: Virgil van Dijk
  • Player with the best pass: Pedri
  • Player with the best finishing: Robert Lewandowski
  • Player with the best dribbling: Nico Williams
  • Player with the best game vision: Luka Modric

Once he named all these players, the host asked the defender to pick one player between the first and the second, the third and the fourth, and so on. Following this elimination process, the Barcelona defender’s list looked like the following:

  • Andrés Iniesta vs Xavi Hernández: Xavi Hernández
  • Rodri vs Virgil van Dijk: Rodrigo Hernández
  • Pedri vs Robert Lewandowski: Pedri
  • Nico Williams vs Luka Modric: Nico Williams
