Injuries are always complicated in football, and Barcelona are no strangers to this phenomenon. Already this season, the Catalan club has suffered many injuries to several key players at various points of the campaign.

However, certain players are undoubtedly very important for Barcelona when they are available. One such player is German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who is currently in the recovery phase after undergoing surgery.

Having suffered a back injury while on international duty with Germany, it has been close to a month since the Barcelona captain last made an appearance for the Catalan club.

Over the last few days, no images or updates have been received either about his recovery. Back surgery is understandably a delicate procedure, and they expect his recovery time to be close to two months.

However, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the German goalkeeper has finally shared an update through his Instagram. With an image of the 31-year-old walking, seemingly without any problems, the Barcelona captain put in the caption: “One step closer.

This will be positive news for Barcelona irrespective of just how big of a development this is. Ter Stegen remains one of the team’s most crucial players and an undeniable leader within the locker room.

Despite Sergi Roberto being the first captain, the German has represented Barça as captain on most occasions this season. This has also translated into some of the side’s best performances during the ongoing campaign.

Several reports and doctors have attempted to elaborate on the duration and kind of injury that Ter Stegen has sustained.

However, it mostly will always come down to the player himself and how he continues to feel about the pain. Furthermore, Ter Stegen will hope to be back in time for the Champions League Round of 16 fixtures for Barcelona.
