In the midst of an ongoing injury crisis at FC Barcelona, the Camp Nou faithful may find some exuberate sooner rather than later. Frenkie De Jong, Xavi’s Dutch maestro in midfield, is expected to be back against an upcoming opponent from Madrid.

Originally, as per reports from Javier Miguel, the player insisted upon training with the group prior to the game against Getafe and being able to participate in the clash on the 16th of April in La Liga Santander against the Azulones.

However, the report further stated that it was the club’s own medical and technical staff that advised against such a decision. They instead requested the player to maintain patience and precaution so as to not aggravate the pre-existing injury or cause a relapse.

The Dutchman has now been allotted further recovery time and is now expected to be available for FC Barcelona when the Catalan side will welcome rivals Atletico Madrid to the Spotify Camp Nou. The league clash is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of April and is a game that will hold vital importance in the eyes of both the manager and fans alike from around the globe.

Having a key player back for this highly anticipated clash would be a massive boost for Xavi Hernandez and his squad. Having initially suffered a hamstring injury following the 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid in their second La Liga clash of the season, this news regarding his recovery is a breath of fresh air following a disappointing chain of results in recent memory.
