Positive news is always welcome at FC Barcelona and the most recent update is no less either. Previously, Spanish star Pedri had been recovering and was unavailable for Barcelona due to an injury to his right thigh with only early ideas of how long he would be out for.
Within a few days of his injury, early diagnosis suggested that the player may be out from anywhere between a month or two with no exact return date. However, only recently, Barcelona fans had received positive reports suggesting he could be back by the clash against Real Madrid for the first official El Clasico of the season at the Montjuic Stadium.
Moreover, those reports seem closer and closer to becoming reality the more time passes. The latest update on Pedri’s recovery comes through several images (h/t Barca Times) showing the 20-year-old working with a ball at his feet at the Barcelona training facilities.
Typically, when players reach the point of training with a ball and then proceeding to train with the collective group, they are close to making their return. In Pedri’s case, given that Barcelona will likely take extra caution regardless, this comes as massive news to a team that does sorely miss his creativity at times.
The former Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy winner will himself be ecstatic to return and prove a point within this Barcelona side now stacked with midfield depth. The likes of Gavi, Ilkay Gundogan, Fermin Lopez, Oriol Romeu, and even the injured Frenkie De Jong will provide ample competition to the recovering Spaniard for their respective places in the team.
For Xavi, Pedri’s return is undoubtedly great news but also brings along with it a massive dilemma. With a fully fit variety of midfielders, it will be up to the Barcelona coach to figure out his best possible team and set up keeping in mind the immense quality at his disposal.
Arguably one of the most talented players in world football, Pedri’s return is sure to give a boost to both FC Barcelona itself and the fans. The youngster donning the storied number eight shirt will have massive expectations of him once he makes his full return, but knowing his quality, he will be up to the task.
