Although he has not been a frequent starter for Xavi this season, Sergi Roberto was still instrumental in the recent La Liga match for FC Barcelona as the Catalans got a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Almeria in their last official game of the calendar year.
Roberto’s contributions in this match would have definitely further endeared him to Barcelona fans, especially as he performed in a game in which the team’s midfield was particularly thin.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, his exploits in that match were positively received not only in Barcelona, as the Italian side Inter Milan has expressed an interest in signing him. This interest was not conveyed directly to Roberto’s agent, but through an intermediary.
Barcelona also know of this interest from Italy, but they do not believe that he is a player who can be allowed to leave in January amid the current conditions.
The player has a contract till the summer of 2024 with the Catalan club, and the Blaugranes are not particularly willing to part with him, especially with all the injuries in the midfield. However, they can be tempted with a low-priced offer as well.
Meanwhile, the Barcelona captain himself is also not looking forward to leaving the club of his life in the winter window and has already given instructions to his agent not to listen to any offers from any club.
Roberto wants to extend his contract with Barcelona for one more season, but the Catalans have not made any move for now. However, the captain believes that an offer will come from the club, and is willing to wait for it, rather than committing to signing for another side.
