FC Barcelona have completed the signing of Vitor Roque and thus achieved one of the major objectives for this summer transfer window. Barcelona’s offer was not as alluring as the offers of some other clubs, but the player himself had his heart set on playing for Barcelona, and this was the decisive factor resulting in his move to Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, other clubs like PSG, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspurs were also interested in the player. Their financial offers were also much more appealing than that of the Catalan club, with their offered wages tripling those offered by Barcelona.
However, Roque himself was only considering FC Barcelona, as he dreamed of playing for the Blaugranes ever since the Catalans had shown an interest in him almost a year ago.
His commitment to La Blaugrana was also on display during the contract signing ceremony. The report mentions that this contract signing took place at his home in Curitiba. At this event, the player was accompanied by his agents Andre Curry and Elher Pessoa, his entire family, and also a shirt with the name of Lionel Messi on it.
The shirt had been signed by Messi in his own hand in 2019 and is kept by Roque as one of his most prized assets. Roque believed that the shirt was important enough to be a part of his career-defining moment, and kept it with him as he embarked on a new journey.
This association with a former Barcelona legend would hopefully motivate the player to try to achieve the same heights that Messi himself did with the club. However, before that can happen, Roque has to actually arrive in Barcelona, and for now, everything indicates that this will happen only in January when the winter transfer window opens.
